jQuery UI Datepickerを SELECT要素に対応させるのは少し面倒そう

Yes. Use beforeShow to set the current date based on the select lists, and onSelect to populate back into those lists. These are applied to a hidden datepicker input field.

それほどの手間ではないが．．．オリジナルでそこまで面倒みてくれないのかな。でもそうするとバリエーションが増えすぎてシンプルさが損なわれそう。
